Happy International Women’s Day.
In recent years, there has been a growing trend of consumers choosing to support women-owned small businesses. This trend has been fueled by a desire to promote gender equality and to support women entrepreneurs who have traditionally faced more barriers to starting and growing their businesses. Celebrating women-owned small businesses is not only good for the economy but also for promoting diversity, inclusion, and gender equality.
There are many reasons why you should support women-owned small businesses. For one, studies have shown that businesses owned by women tend to be more innovative, flexible, and sustainable. Women entrepreneurs also tend to be more focused on social and environmental responsibility.
So, how can you celebrate and support women-owned small businesses? Here are some ideas:
1. Shop at women-owned businesses: Look for small businesses in your area that are owned and operated by women. This could be anything from a local boutique or coffee shop to a professional service provider like a graphic designer or accountant. Many cities and towns have directories or online resources that list women-owned businesses, so start there.
A few of my favorite women-owned, handmade small businesses include:
Baby O and I: My husband and I continue to sing praises of Jensine and her work with us when our daughter was a baby. Jensine gave us the gift of sleep and we will always be grateful for her support. She is the best sleep coach for anyone with children 4 and under! https://www.babyoandiconsulting.com/
Blue Spruce Candles: This is my candle company that designs soothing scents to help people relax and unwind. We live in a busy world and our home should be our sanctuary. I want to help you create that sanctuary through the use of my timeless candle jars and calming scents. https://bluesprucecandles.com/
Domenica Cooks: While I have never met Domenica in person, she is an inspiration. My father’s side of my family is from Italy and Domenica’s recipes allow me to connect to my Italian roots and share those roots with my husband and daughter. I have gifted her cookbooks to many people and trust me when I say that you should as well! https://www.domenicacooks.com/
Leanna Organics: Besides being the kindest person, owner Tracy has the highest quality and effectiveness of CBD products, all made by hand from organic ingredients, and infused with the purest hemp-derived CBD from Colorado. Seriously, if you want to relax in a bath grab one of her bath bombs and soothe your stress away. https://leannaorganics.com/
Lux and Luca: Cassie is one of those empowering women who creates jewelry that is bold and feminine but inspires people to step out of their comfort zones. Her jewelry and accessories will leave you feeling like you can accomplish anything! https://www.luxandluca.com/
Sole by La: Laura is always excited to create custom pieces so that her customers have a gorgeous one-of-a-kind handmade piece for their body or home. Her hand-bent wire and free-form jewelry are showstoppers and are the perfect treat for the hard-working women in your life. https://sole-by-la.square.site/
2. Spread the word: Share information about women-owned small businesses on your social media channels, blog, or website. Let your friends and family know about the amazing women entrepreneurs in your community and encourage them to support these businesses.
3. Attend events: Many women-owned small businesses host events such as pop-up shops, workshops, or networking events. Attend these events and connect with the women entrepreneurs in your community. You may even find new products or services that you love.
4. Invest in women-owned businesses: If you're an investor, consider supporting women-owned businesses by investing in them. This not only helps these businesses grow but also helps to promote gender equality in the business world.
Celebrating women-owned small businesses is a great way to support gender equality and promote economic growth. By supporting women entrepreneurs, we can help to create a more diverse and inclusive business landscape that benefits everyone. So, the next time you're shopping or looking for professional services, consider supporting a woman-owned small business.
