Have you jumped on the candle trend of using your candles to enhance the scent of your room AND as a focal point in your home décor? If not, now is the perfect time to do so!
Candles are increasingly being used in home décor and with good reason. Not only do candles help set a mood and bring light to your home, luxury candle jars also serve as functional design pieces. Many candle makers are creating labels that are minimal and unobtrusive so the candle jar itself can be the focus of the décor.
When searching for candles to use in your décor, I suggest you look for jars that are in the same or complimentary shades as your décor. I create candles in matte white jars because not only are they beautiful to look at, but they also fit into almost all décors with a timeless look.
If you are new to using candles as part of your décor, the following seven tips will help you create a gorgeous Valentine’s Day vignette that will have you feeling all the love. You might be thinking, “That sounds great, but what is a vignette?” Very simply, a vignette is a group of objects that are placed together to create a pleasing focal point.
For our Valentine’s Day vignette, I recommend you use a whit tray as a base and use it on your mantle, coffee table, kitchen island, or in your entryway to cheerfully welcome your guests.
Let’s get designing!
1. Smaller Design Trays Are Easier to Style
This is especially true if you are new to styling or if you don’t want to buy a lot of items to store once the holiday has passed. Think the top part of a tiered tray or a round charger plate.
2. Anchor Your Design with a Larger Vase
Using a larger item such as a case filled with seasonal flowers adds visual interest and helps the eye flow from top to bottom of your décor. I always switch between faux and real flowers depending on my mood and if I have the time to care for live flowers. Choose whichever you prefer!
3. Place Your Candle Up on an Elevated Candle Holder
By placing your candle up and off the bottom of the tray you will draw more interest to the beautiful jar. Be sure to keep all other décor such as flowers away from the flame of the candle. Choose a scent that compliments your design such as Rose Petals for Valentine’s Day.
4. Stick with One Décor Style
When designing a smaller vignette using many different styles of décor makes everything look cluttered and unorganized. Some popular styles to use include boho/farmhouse/traditional
5. Include a Mixture of Textures
Mixing textures such as wood, fabric, metal, or ceramic will increase the visual interest of your design. Still stick with the same décor style, but natural elements such as flowers or feathers mix well with a wood tray and ceramic candle holder.
6. Use Multiple Colors in Similar Shades or Hues
To keep a cohesive look to your design, use colors that compliment each other. For Valentine’s Day this could be Red & White, Pink & White, or Red, White & Pink. By using those colors in the same hues such as pastel you will bring a particular feel to your design
7. Use Colored Matches in your Design
Colored matches are quickly becoming a favored way to light candles as they bring an element of joy and cuteness to the act of lighting a candle. Plus, it makes finding matches for your candle so much easier.
With those simple design tricks, you will be creating gorgeous vignettes to bring light and beauty to your home. To help get you started on what to put in your vignette, I have created a simple list of possible items to include. My advice it to first find items you already own and being your design around those. Then, head to your favorite store and pick up the few additional items you need to complete the look.
I hope this has filled you with inspiration and encouragement to create your perfect Valentine’s Day vignette. Don’t forget to grab yourself one of our Rose scented candles. One light and your house will smell as if you have transported yourself into your favorite floral shop at the height of floral season.
Happy Designing!
